You Are Meant For More

Isn't it time you did something about this part of yourself you keep hidden? - Dobby Gibson

I'm going to give you a pep talk today because I feel like you (I) need to hear it.

I want you to know something about yourself-- something life-changing, in fact.  Here it is: You were meant for more.

It's true.  You were meant for more.  You were meant for more joy... more peace... more hope... more fulfillment... more action... more serenity... more love... more of God.

Jesus tried to tell his followers this on more than one occasion.  They struggled to understand what he was talking about when he said things like this:
A thief is only there to steal and kill and destroy. I came so they can have real and eternal life, more and better life than they ever dreamed of. - John 10:10
What Jesus wanted his followers to know was simply this:  All God wants for us is what God has always wanted for us--to have abundant, vibrant, full and eternal life.  In other words, to experience more of God's reality here and now... and for always.

The sad bit of all of this is that we deny ourselves of all that God's desires because we believe we don't deserve more.  We turn away from the abundant life God has for us and toward a life lived in scarcity where we are small, tired, stressed, and filled with the belief that there is never enough.

Elie Wiesel once told his students that this turning away is against our very nature:
So often we are told not to be too passionate, not to feel too much, to go along with the world as it is.  I reject that.  I believe that we are meant to feel strongly, to feel deeply, to awaken and cultivate our yearning for good.  Only then can we have a chance of overcoming those who are passionate for the wrong things.
Today I want you to determine to live differently.  I want you to begin by saying this phrase out loud:  I am meant for more.   Repeat it as many times as you need to until you can say it with boldness.

And then live into it.  Know that Jesus came to give you eternal life--the kind that begins now.  Know that God desires for you to embrace the fullness of God in everything and everyone.  Know that you are just what the world needs right now.

You are meant for more.

May the grace and peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you now and always. Amen.
